Power? Yes, You Do Have Some! Use It!

Thank you for being a reader.  Thank you for your curiosity and the very kind comments you share on Facebook and here on the blog.  With that being said, here we go again.  Please stick with me and then call your legislators in your state and speak out.  So many times I have read the stories, listened to the newscasts, watched the congressional hearings and still I know some of the people in my life believe I'm irrational and over reacting terribly.  Even if they don't agree with what is happening they throw up their hands and say, "It's awful, but what can I do about it?".  We are the only people who can do something about it.

We have separation of powers written into the United States Constitution for a reason.  You all know that.  Our constitution was written so that no single person could control the workings of the United States Government. Yet, here we are. Yesterday, President Trump wrote on Truth Social:  “CONGESTION PRICING IS DEAD. Manhattan, and all of New York, is SAVED. LONG LIVE THE KING!”  The White House then proceeded to share Trump’s quote on social media, accompanied with the above computer generated image.

He is not a King friends!  Nor should he be treated as the Savior of our Country!

Entire congressionally established agencies and departments are being examined and gutted by employees of DOGE.  The U.S. Department of Education has halted $600 million dollars of teacher training grants to teacher preparation programs that:

  • Train on topics such as “Building Cultural Competence,” “Dismantling Racial Bias” and “Centering Equity in the Classroom”;
  • Acknowledging and responding to systemic forms of oppression and inequity, including racism, ableism, “gender-based” discrimination, homophobia, and ageism;
  • Providing spaces for critical reflection to help educators confront biases and have transformative conversations about equity.

Please someone tell me why these are unacceptable practices.

There is so much that can be done to improve the United States, our practices and our policies need to be examined regularly and revisited often.  There is waste and there is abuse of funds and systems and there SHOULD be accountability!  That's why we have three branches of government.  That's why we have elected officials that we have chosen to represent us.

Please, please take a minute to engage in dialog.  Sitting by wringing our hands and yelling at each other on social media will not resolve the pending crisis.  You cannot sit by and wait for the whole thing to implode and then wonder what you could have done.  I'm not foolish.  I know that right this second on February 20, 2025 most of us in rural Illinois are not feeling the direct effects of what is happening in Washington, D.C., in Ukraine, in Europe, in Canada and Mexico, but we will.  One way or another the cards will begin to fall.

There is an app, 5calls.org, that will help you get started.  Whether you agree or disagree with actions taking place you can let your legislators know how you feel about specific issues.  It's not everything you can do, but it's a start.  Please check it out.  Thank you!
