Warning: This Post is My Opinion, Based in Fact and Experience
Tomorrow, February 28, 2025, Charlie and I will not be spending our money by making any purchases at all. I do want to qualify this statement by saying this is an extension of something we, as a couple, have agreed to since the election of Donald Trump and the Executive Actions he has allowed Elon Musk to carry out. So many people have asked what they can do and how they can make their feelings about the multitude of issues currently being forced on all of us.
The issues, in case you are wondering, that Charlie and I are adamantly expressing our unhappiness with include, but are not limited to, reek of past acts of suppression of specific sectors of our society and we believe will cause irreparable damage to our democracy.
- Referring to individuals as retarded or mentally inferior and cutting funding that would encourage inclusion of ALL people in the workforce in this country.
- Demanding that all federal offices and agencies, including schools, remove and cease any action that would encourage a clear understanding of diversity, equity and inclusion.
- Forcing the registration and fingerprinting of individuals who have not yet attained citizenship status and subsequently preparing former military installations as holding facilities for "rounded up" individuals.
- Passing a budget that provides tax cuts for the wealthy on the backs of the poor by decreasing services and access to medical care and childcare.
- Expressing even the idea that we could or would "buy" a foreign country or part of a foreign country to turn it into a playground for the extremely wealthy.
- Selling citizenship for five million dollars and representing it with a gold card to demonstrate elitism.
- Turning our backs on the people of Ukraine.
- ...and so much more
Neither of us is foolish enough to think that one day of Cindy and Charlie not shopping on Amazon or with Walmart will change the way things are immediately, but we do believe if enough of us express our thoughts and feelings we can be heard. Maybe one day can encourage others to speak out against injustice the next day and maybe just maybe one voice will become a chorus that our leaders will recognize and listen to. It's worth a try. Thank you for reading this blog and thank you for caring.
